Brett Myers asked YOU to pick his entrance march. You did.

You picked P.O.D.'s "Lights Out."

View the results here.

More than 3,500 voted, which is an impressive turnout.

Thanks to everybody who voted.

Many people seem to be wondering how legitimate Adam Eaton's right shoulder inflammation is.

Eaton had said just recently that he felt fine physically.

Here's my answer: It exists, but it's something he could have pitched through if he had been pitching better. Both sides acknowledge this. But because he got a coritsone injection Sunday, it allowed the Phillies to put him on the disabled list. Pitching coach Rich Dubee said, "It depends on what his last three performances were like. If he was getting his arm slot up and getting a good angle on everything and commanding everything and pitching effectively and he could tolerate the pain, yeah, maybe [he could continue]. . . . Generally, when guys don't command well, there's an issue. Hell, if he had a 1.00 ERA over the last three games, he'd obviously be commanding the ball pretty good and throwing with a good angle."

I would not be surprised if Eaton is activated before the Phillies play the Mets. He has great numbers against the Mets. Then again, Charlie Manuel remained noncommittal about Eaton's spot in the rotation. I'm wondering what happens if J.D. Durbin puts together two or three quality starts and the Phillies win those games? Could they possibly remove him with so much to play for?

*

The Phillies bats have gone silent. They had just five hits in last night's 3-2 loss to the Nationals at RFK Stadium.

I've received some spirited e-mails today blaming Manuel's decision to have Russell Branyan hit against lefthander Ray King in the seventh inning as the reason they lost. I see their argument, but I don't think that's why they lost. Manuel could have pulled back Branyan. But for who? He had Chris Roberson, Abraham Nunez and Greg Dobbs available, assuming Manuel was holding back Carlos Ruiz in case something happened to Chris Coste (something Larry Bowa did all the time).

Branyan is a .219 career hitter against lefthanders, which sounds terrible until you learn he is a career .231 hitter against righthanders. That's not much of a difference. No, I don't think that was the killer play of the game. Jimmy Rollins and Tadahito Iguchi both had chances to get hits after Branyan, but failed. Other reasons they lost? The blown call and botched play at first base in the second inning allowed two runs to score. But overall, the offense has been silent in Washington. They need to pick it up tonight in the series finale.

TJ:

I'm still miffed that he didn't use my White Stripes suggestion - not voting!

TroubleMan:

Yeah these songs are all terrible. Sorry Brett.

Jack White:

I second TJ, not sure what song he suggested but i think it would sound cool for the closer to come out to ICKY THUMP by the stripes

DP:

Ughhh... Myers musical tastes are crap. The best out there are classic tunes with ridiculous intros. His are crap new metal rock that many probably never heard...

Bill:

My god, this music is horrible! I would be embarressed and ashamed to hear this crap as he entered the game. I'm not voting for any of this garbage. Just play AC/DC's "Thunderstruck".

rap sucks:

I agree. I just viewed the results. The third selection is winning by a very large margin. (Although not many people seem to be voting overall. Nothing good to choose from perhaps?) If I have to listen to that horrible rap song every time he enters the game, I will cancel my season tickets. Brett is wearing out his welcome here.

Anonymous:

Everybody needs to relax. I think it's pretty cool that Brett -- no matter what the songs -- is letting us pick his intro music. That said, I chose Saliva's song. I think it'd sound the coolest piped through the stadium.

John in LA:

Brett,

If you're reading this - and what else would you be doing? - the point is to pick a song that people actually... know. Or like. Or have heard before and might actually hear again in a few years. Most of us on the blog have jobs, and don't have the benefit of working at the mall and spending our free time hanging out behind a Wawa - the top two places, incidentally, you'd normally hear a song by POD or Saliva. Try again?

Freddy:

A lot of crusty folks on this board. Man, oh, man ...

Chris:

Dear Brett,

Please please PLEASE choose better and different music. I actually don't think these songs are horrible, but you can do better, for chrissakes!!

I actually agree that the White Stripes would probably be an excellent choice. Or something classic would do, too.

Rap would be fine - pick some classic Tupac or Tribe Called Quest or something else.

Thanks,
Troubled Phils phan

Zac:

Guys, Guys, Guys...wouldn't you rather have him come out to a song he gets fired up to for rather than some random fan suggestions? The White Stripes' "Icky Thump" is a very good song, however, I don't think it is intro music worthy. AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" is played in the beginning, middle and end of every game in every ballpark in America (specifically the Trenton Thunder). I don't particularly enjoy any of the songs on the list, but I do believe that all three could be good entry music (more the P.O.D. song because of it's lyrics "lights out, game over, you can check my stats" or whatever)...I just think we shouldn't rip his request and we should vote what ever the best possible song is for him to enter to. By the way, Brett hasn't worn out his welcome and I would love for him to close for us for the next 10-12 years. Also, if this is the reason you are going to cancel your season tickets you are crazy...lack of competitiveness? Not having made the playoffs in 14 years? Lack of getting the big time free-agent? These don't force you to cancel? Get a grip...

Gang Behind WAWA:

Duuuuudes,

You're seriously bringing' us down....

John in LA:

The choices, to me, are like somebody asking you if you're rather get stabbed or set on fire...

Josh:

I hate to say this, but the best closer song I ever heard was "Enter Sandman". It really got everybody pumped up. Unfortunately, none of these songs have that effect. I voted for Saliva because of the lyrics and because it is actually introducing him. Sadly, it is just the best of the available options.

J in Virginia:

Be original. Try the "Mars" selection from Holst's symphony "The Planets". It has power and sounds great played LOUD in a stadium.

B Dub :

Wow, I’m pretty surprised by the reaction here. While I’m not a fan of Brett’s choices here it is way, way cool of Brett to let us vote. Way cool! Would I’d rather he picked the White Stripes or something like Radiohead’s “The National Anthem”? Well yeah, but that’s my taste.

And to get on Brett’s case for something in some bands video… That’s just low and grasping at straws. Maybe I’m missed the sarcasm there or something, but that’s kind of bush league.

If Brett is reading this I want to thank you for letting us have a say, because you really didn’t have to do that. I think it’s shows you care about your fans. I have voted. Now go mow ‘em down.

Tough loss last night. That’s going to happen from time to time, the guys need to pick it up and get the W today and we’ve got the best guy on the mound to do it. Go Phillies!

mike:

as someone else said earlier- this music stuff is old.

as for the game, i was bitching about branyan hitting too. but when i thought about it, it did force acta to use up his LH (king) when most managers save the lefty for howard, as todd said the bench is weak in general, maybe he could have hit dobbs but the guy did hit a homer to win it the night before. he played a hunch and it didn't work out. the real problem was rollins K-ing after him. couldn't predict that, he usually- and needed to put the ball in play there.

howard does hit for power vs. lefties, but i'd still prefer him to hit vs. a righty. not a great decision for charlie but i can think of far worse ones.

jay segovia:

I haven't been following the Phills that long. If I'm not mistaken, Washington pitch around Burrel to get at Howard and the Shift. Rollins leading off and Burrel third hasn't faired to well in my eyes because it is exposing Howards strike-out problems. I suppose when the injured return, that will shake things up. Burrels numbers since his move to the third spot can't be very good.

Zip it, tools. As long as Brett closes out the game, who cares what music he enters to. AC/DC? Get out of your rocking chairs. I'm sick of these lame crappy songs that have been played out. Don't like the choices? Don't vote.

Angus:

Pathetic, mate. Why not Back in Black?

The other reason it is OK for Branyan to PH in that spot is he is very unlikely to hit into a rally-killing DP (since his at-bats are usually either home runs, strikeouts, or walks).

Prodigy:

Thomas

I see no other choice for getting him fired up.

If it's any song but that one, it's a travesty.

Zac:

...and then Brett will merrily frolic and out of the bullpen rather than run out...

Dan:

If someone is canceling their season tickets due to the closer's entrance theme, please just go ahead and cancel them now, we don't need any more fair weather fans willing to leap from the bandwagon the second something displeasures them... Brett picked 3 songs HE gets pumped up too... this isn't Total Request Live... and the White Stripes suck anyway... Brett probably thinks so to

G inadelphia:

How about Darth Vader's theme??

V:

This Brett Myers music talk has to stop. I hope he picks either POD or Saliva and just ends it all.

Malcolm:

It is nice that Brett is letting us vote for his song, but it's disposable nu metal garbage.

A closer's song is supposed to not only fire the closer up, but the fans as well. And "Enter Sandman," "Hells Bells" ... these songs do that. A lot of fans aren't going to know some random POD or Saliva song from a hole in the wall. I agree with "Thunderstruck." Something like that, at least.

old guy:

I hate entrance music. What's the point? Just come in and do your job like all of us. In fact, get rid of all the music before each batter as well. I come to watch baseball, not enter a theme park or concert.

dsfg:

This blog is a joke. They didn't like the opinions of the masses, so they stopped allowing people to post. Shame on you.

doug:

all three are crappy, no doubt, but please don't go for the cover song. this whole country is now predicated on recycling success in the name of business... with the sequels and remakes and spiderman 4s and nickelbacks and testosterone and money. the darker the better, i like the 2nd one.

Anonymous:

Gotta love the vocal minority. Hamels already uses Thunderstruck, so that's out.

doug:

wow, in reading back a few posts, i don't think there's any better song than radiohead's "the national anthem".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n02PhHaeRG4

Steve:

How about "for whom the bell tolls" by Metallica?

jimmymack:

If there was ever a reason to wish for a Friday, the end of this music debate is it.

I have watched some of the most pathetic at bats this year in this series. Sounds like Gary Matthews is ready to go down and pull a Jose Offerman on some of our hitters. No discipline at all. I know the NATS always play us tough but we really need these games and we are beating ourselves. And the "one who shall remain nameless" has disappered at the plate and lost his mind in the field (John in LA, I have your back if your sister goes after you). Very disappointing game last night. Hope our ace pulls us out of it tonight.

Charlie was fine in batting Banyan, as TZ pointed out. The people screaming must listen to Cataldi and his nonsense in the morning. Think about it folks, agreeing with him or Eskin means you probably need help. Clueless and brianless hate Manual and will blame him for everything. It's agenda radio.

Frank:

Are you kidding me, these are GREAT songs!! Bitter, BITTER people on this BLOG. Im so glad you guys are gonna cancel your season tickets cause Im gonna call the office right now and buy your seats..losers. Saliva and P.O.D are good bands and you dont have to hang out behind a WAWA to know that!! Sounds like half you people are stuck in the 70's and 80's.....

Do yourselves a favor and go have fun listening to AC/DC on your 8-track

Dennis:

Branyan was not the best choice last night. A contact hitter was needed, put the ball in play.

This team is in danger of falling out of the wildcard race the next two weeks. The pitching is fine. Too many offensive holes in the lineup. Rollins and Howard are simply not producing. Good pitching shuts them down.

I see a big slide coming the next 14 games. A 4-10 mark is very possible with the weakened offense and no running game to produce runs.

Durbin will get jacked this weekend. I hope I am wrong.)

Howard must become a factor! Make contact in clutch situations.

By the way, Pineiro looks pretty good. He would have helped the team.

The lack of draft choice signings again goes unnoticed, but speaks volumes for this organization. Stop signing questionable free agents and put money in the minor leagues. Get some scouts and pay them. Stop being cheap where it counts.

Myers should not worry about music, but getting guys out. Did Jim Konstanty have music in 1950?

Roberts said in his book about the 1950 Phillies that organization stopped getting quality players for the big club. Wow, 57 years later the problem still exists.

It is sad to see the beginning of the end again.

Prediction: Within two years the Nats will have a better record than the Phillies.

Frustrated Fan

Anonymous:

those songs are all terrible, but whatever. he can listen to Wilson Phillips for all i care, as long as he's striking guys out.

everyone is hurting b/c Utley's out. Howard and Utley feed off each other; Utley struggled while Howard was out as well. i think the best thing Ryan could do would be to learn to slap the ball into left field for a base hit. that would almost eliminate the shift.

Michael:

I think everyone should stroll over to the phillies homepage and compare Brett Myers's and Adam Eaton's career statistics.

Big curve aside Brett is a fat loser who doesn't deserve any entrance music whatsoever, not even these horrible songs

B Dub:

Holy crap! We go weeks with barley any comments and then the lightning bolt that is Brett Myer’s music strikes down.
After reading some of these comments it amazes me why the Phillies have a hard time keeping players and have to over pay free agents.
Brett might not have lived up to lots of people’s expectations as a starter, but he was solid as a starter and has shined as a closer so far. He’s had a few shaky outings but for the most part when he’s been put in a save situation, he has come through.
Doug: thanks for sharing the radiohead love, but like I said before this is Brett’s thing and I think it is awesome he’s letting us have some fun with it.

All those picking on Brett for his past digressions should shut the heck up as well. You are not funny. By all accounts the man is trying to do right and he dissevers a chance to do so without judgment. He with out sin…

I’m sure we all have a few skeletons in our closets, just most of us either a) didn’t get caught or b) didn’t get our poor decisions dragged out in the public eye.

Let it go.

Anonymous:

i'd like to see howard lay a bunt down the third baseline. delgado did that to us a few months back. it was sweet!

Chrissy:

Yeah, I don't like Myer's choices either - if I HAD to choose it would be POD, but I don't really like that too much...

Pat H:

Will everyone stop ! Every move Chalie makes is questioned. True, their not allways by the book. The way Chalie manages, he has faith in his players. They may not come through at times, but he insills confidence in them for the next time. If everything was by the book, there'd be no need for a mgr. Also, stop listening to that Cataldi(Ivy league clown)!Eskin, couldn't manage a little league team. The only worry I have, is that they may not be good enough. Fighting Phils are in the hunt !Home Run hitters, "STRIKE OUT" to much !

chris:

Wagner's Ride of the Valkryes.

Jcool:

yo assholes --its HIS music..if your gonna cancel your season tickets due to some music then cancel them, your not true fans anyway.your probaly the same people that sit on your hands the whole game afraid to make any noise at all..get bent losers
