Hamels Could Start Tuesday, Kendrick Hurt

Just a quick update from the ballpark ...

Cole Hamels threw well today in a bullpen session at Citizens Bank Park and is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday against the Cardinals in St. Louis. That's if he suffers no setbacks. He will long toss tomorrow and Friday, and throw a simulated game Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium.

Who gets bumped from the rotation? Well, Tuesday would be J.D. Durbin's spot in the rotation, but I wouldn't rule anything out at this point (i.e. Adam Eaton).

Kyle Kendrick left the game in the top of the fourth inning with a right lateral knee contusion, which is a bruise. Garrett Atkins smoked a line drive off Kendrick's knee to leadoff the inning. X-rays were negative. He is listed as day-to-day, but the Phillies certainly can't afford for him to miss a start.

Murph:

Tough one tonight. The first inning was a killer. We couldn't even get one run on the board. Howard and Rowand need to deliver in that situation.

Need LA to help us out tonight.

Hope Kyle is OK. One more hill to climb...

LarryV.:

Thanks for the update, Todd. Too bad that the potentially good news about Hamels is FAR outweighed by the Phils' utter ineffectiveness of the past two nights, their wretched pitching staff, and the increasing hole that they're digging for themselves.

It ain't over but the fat lady has the green light and she's clearing her throat...

V:

As if the DL wasn't packed enough, it would be a shame for Kyle to end his season on the bench.

Pat H:

U-G-L-Y OOOOHH that ugly ! LV ,I heard the fat one, humming. I'm starting to worry, about next year allready. The offence can't do much better. The pitching needs complete overhaul, Dead weight salaries, a GM, that seems to be going through the motions. Howard's ensuing raise, is gone to put a big hit to available payroll. Ballpark ? I know im getting ahead of myself, Need to talk about it. Dogs are tired of my whinning..Thanks for listening...

'.i told you your phillies would choke when things got close.so i guess it's good luck in the playoffs in 2 years because next year doesn't look good for you guys either.LETS GO METS.......and zo,nothing wrong with some good banter between fans....lighten up.....

John in LA:

Metsfan,

I guess the point is: win or lose, most/all of us are here to support the Phillies. It's a Phillies' blog. You, on the other hand, are here to taunt and gloat. Yes, Metsfan, the Mets are better than the Phillies. They have spent much more money, have greater resources, and have not had nearly as many injuries. They probably should be up by 20 games, but they're not. Frankly, I'd say they're a disappointment. Still, being a fan of the better team, your life has much more value than mine and for that I envy you. I'll miss our chats and your frequent overuse of the CAPS button. Have you considered the Padres' blog?

jimmymack:

Yeah, what John said.
