Phillies Show A New Look

rollins%20models.jpgThe Phillies unveiled their new alternate home uniforms today at Citizens Bank Park.

I like 'em.

Of course, maybe I'm a little tired of the red pinstripes, red cap, red socks and red shoes. There's some variety in these uniforms, plus they're old school. Jimmy Rollins and Cole Hamels both said they like the new uniforms, which will be worn on day games.

Regardless, I'm sure they'll sell well in the stores.

By the way, the "Melvin Mora to the Phillies" rumor reported elsewhere is bunk.

Not gonna happen.

I like the cream uni. Not feeling the blue/red cap. At all. When I saw the pic of Rollins, I initially thought the cap was black or a darker blue. It reminds me too much of the 'blue curse' day game hats from '94.

Dan C.:

I think the blue hat curse from '94 may have been to roid-ragers what a red cape is to a bull.

The new hats look great, I'll wager that over the next few years, they transition into this uniform and work "PHILA" into their road digs.

dmac:

I like 'em somewhat, but I really think they need the blue stirrups from the 46-49 jerseys they kinda look like.

I never thought the day would come when I'd see the Philly Phanatic do an uncanny impression of Naomi Campbell's trademark stomp-walk.

dmac, I'm sure Jamie Moyer will rock the stirrups.

Bill:

The uniforms look great. Shame their not permanent. Hated the pinstripes. The only reason they showed up at all was Bob Carpenter had a Yankee fixation. I agree, they need stirrups.

Off the subject a little...did anyone see the video of Larussa getting arrested and trying to walk a straight line and say his ABC's??? I love how you see all these DWI commercials on tv about how they are cracking down on people drinking and driving, yet another sports/celebrity gets off rather lightly after getting arrested. Larussa looked wasted, he couldn't even walk a straight line and fully say the alphabet. It's such BS that these celebs ge off 99% of the time. It's such a joke!!!!

I never have understood why the team seems so committed to the pinstripe. First off, it's another revenue stream. Most importantly, what exactly has this team done in the candystripes to deserve them becoming a fixture? One World Series win in 57 years. Time for a change.

As for the blue hats - I think they work with these unis - the '94 hats always seemed misplaced.

Louis DeVizia:

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I love the pinstripes and all the red. But these look pretty good too - albeit Cole should've had some better shoes on. I love the idea of having road jerseys that say "PHILA" on them. That's the one thing I never understood - the home and road jerseys have the same emblem. A lot of teams have the nickname on the homes and the city or state name on the roadies. That's cool. "Philadelphia" would be cool.

Tyler Elliott:

I never quite understood how something old ends up being called 'new'. It is a circa late-1940's jersey with more breathable fabric. Because its styled after something 60yrs ago, the proper term would be Antique. And though Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts debuted as Phillies with similar looking jerseys, pretty much all the Phillies teams of the 1940s were deeply dreadful and whose memories are not worth drudging up. "New" would be add a sleeveless jersey or add a striking color like black; "New" means imagination, inventiveness, freshness.. The only thing "New" about these alternative jerseys is the $189.99 pricetag.

jH:

The "New" black - you mean just like the Marlins, Mest, Rockies and whoever else that went to black uniforms in the last ten years or so? Yeah, as a player, I'd want to be playing day games in July in Philly in a black uni.. Teams experiments with "imagination, inventiveness, freshness" generally seem to be either an immediate flop (remember the all burgundy Phils unis that lasted ONE GAME) or end up looking really 'dated', really fast (i.e. the Astros unis from the early 80's, etc.). Meanwhile, the classics (both Sox teams, Yanks) keep on keepin' on. There are exceptions to the rule, but there is a reason why classics always come back. Well - besides the refreshed revenue stream.

Louis DeVizia:

Ah, I just noticed the new jerseys don't have the numbers on the shoulder.

neil mcauliffe:

Finally, the Phillies will have a good looking uniform. I hate the current home uniforms. All they remind me of is those awful teams from the 1950s and 1964.
