Rollins, Rowand Win Gold Gloves

rowand%20hits%20fence.jpg

This just in: Jimmy Rollins and Aaron Rowand each won Gold Gloves in the National League. Both are first-time winners.

Rollins had a .985 fielding percentage at shortstop this season, the third-best mark in the National League. He also played a league-leading 1,441 1/3 innings at the position and committed 11 errrors, tied for the second fewest in the league. Rollins is the fourth Phillies shortstop to win a Gold Glove, and the first since Larry Bowa in 1978. The others are Bobby Wine (1963), Ruben Amaro Sr. (1964) and Bowa (1972, 1978).

Rowand, who is a free agent, had 11 assists in centerfield to lead the league. His two errors were tied for the fewest in the league. He is the third Phillies outfielder to win the award. The others are Garry Maddox (1975-82) and Bobby Abreu (2005).

This is the first time the Phillies have had more than won Gold Glove winner since 1982, when Maddox, third baseman Mike Schmidt and second baseman Manny Trillo won.

WELL ITS ABOUT TIME J-ROLL GETS HIS DUE!!!!! HE IS THE BEST SS IN BASEBALL PERIOD!!!
ITS A GOOD THING HE LOVES PHILLY.......CAUSE WE LOVE HIM

Unfortunately the Gold Glove has become tainted over the past decade as the award has become a popularity contest, where for some strange reason offense comes into play for a defensive meritted award. Bobby Abreu ruined the Gold Glove for me personally.
