The awards keep coming for Jimmy Rollins.
Rollins, who won a Gold Glove earlier this week, won his first National League Silver Slugger Award today. Chase Utley also won a Silver Slugger, the second of his career.
Rollins hit .296 with 38 doubles, 20 triples, 30 home runs and 94 RBIs this season. He is the first player in baseball history to have at least 200 hits, 20 triples, 25 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season. He also set NL records for runs (139) and extra-base hits (88) by a shortstop.
“It’s nice to be recognized for my offensive prowess by the managers and coaches,” Rollins said in a statement. “I take a lot of pride in hitting and I really am honored to receive this award.”
Utley hit .332 with 48 doubles, 22 home runs and 103 RBIs. Despite missing a month because of a broken right hand, he led all big-league second basemen in RBIs, slugging percentage (.571) and on-base percentage (.413) and tied for the lead in doubles. Over the last three seasons (2005-07), Utley has led all major league second basemen in hits (525), runs (321), RBI (300) and home runs (79).

Still no update on J.C. Romero. The sides remain close, but they are in a holding pattern for some reason.

I love Jimmy, but I've never heard a person say that it's nice to recognized for his "prowess" before. What the hell, he earned it!

Let's hope J Roll can add MVP to his trophy case this off season.

Chase Utley is the second coming of Ryne Sandburg. How many 2nd baseman Hit 3rd on their teams? He's a future Hall of Famer. Jimmy Rollins is the best shortstop ever. Sorry Ozzie, Larry, and Cal.

Holliday deserves the MVP? Are you serious? Those are standard numbers for a standard outfielder on a standard team that somehow strung together a great postseason stretch.
J-Roll had an historic year for shortstops.

The MVP could easily go either way. They both deserve it. But Jroll did it all year long and kept his team going all year long when big bats were injured. Holliday had help all year long. I really hope Jroll wins, then next year Chase can win it!!! A Phils MVP hatrick!! And whats the deal with Holliday taking the rbi lead away from Howard?? They called that extra game the rockies played a playoff game, so why does it count towards the regular season stats??? Can anyone answer that one??

Ditto to the posters above. Silver Slugger is nice, but the MVP is the big one-and nobody deserves it more than Jimmy. Jimmy Rollins-2007 NL MVP.

Technicallly that one-game "playof" is a regular season game. Makes no sense to me. As for the MVP? Both had great stats and both played in a hitters paradise. Difference is, JRoll's stats were far less skewed toward his home production. Holiday was MUCH better at Coors, while Jimmy was excellent everywhere. Choice is simple: Jimmy Rollins IS the MVP in every sense of the word.

I can't help wondering what could have been if chase hadn't gone down.. He was on his way to an historic season.

Hopefully you won't have to wonder more than 11 months or so. Utley is just scratching the surface of his prime, so I'm guessing that we'll find out next year (and the year after that, and the year after that...). How good would that infield be if the team added just an adequate third baseman? Scary indeed. I'm worried that we heard a flurry of rumors saying the Phils were about to ink Romero to a new deal and it hasn't happened yet. Any new news there?

Shortstop is a vital defensive position. People like Pat Burrell and Manny Ramirez play left field and put up great batting numbers. But they play left field because that is the best place to hide them from the ball when it is hit. Left field isn't anywhere near as important as shortstop. Do you think Holliday could play shortstop? Rollins is clearly the MVP.

Chase might want to change his approach at the plate next season and start looking for many more off-speed pitches in certain counts because that's what he's going to see. Sitting on the fastball all the time won't work anymore, as he was exposed in the playoffs.

SS is a much more demanding position and J Roll did put up an all time statistical season. Holliday had a great season .. but definitely not an all time season.
I agree that is J Roll wins it this year, then Utley is the favorite to win it next year.

That would be something if JRoll took it this year and Utley next. It's been 44 years since the same team took the MVP in three consecutive years by 3 different players. (NYY did it then.) Hasn't happened in the NL since 1944 (Cardinals)
