Warming Up for Spring?

Comments (29)

Rob in Binghamton:

Goosebumps again...every time. Damm, can't wait for Spring Training!

Karl :

Just fantastic! Boy, what a season! Come on Spring training, go Phillies!!!!!!!!

Norma:

I NEVER get tired of seeing that!!!!

I was there and it will be something I will never forget. You would have thought the Phils won the World Series!

Spring Training.........20 days and counting!!!!

Brian:

I was at that game too and it was by far the best game I've ever been to. I just hope we can experience a celebration like that after a World Series victory!! Lets go Phils!!

ali:

I too was lucky enough to be at this game, sitting (standing) 3 rows behind the dugout. I'll never forget the feeling. I was also lucky enough to be sitting (definitely standing) 8 rows off the field for the Phillies last win against the Mets. It was the most exciting sporting event I'd ever seen, let alone been to. I'm looking forward to spring training and the start of the season as if last season never ended. Soooo excited!

Norma:

ali, was that the game when Chase singled in Iguchi for the sweep? I would have given ANYTHING to be at that game!!!!

That made *top play* on several media lists!

Rom:

I didn't care that the Phil's didn't win the series last year. The euphoria of beating out the Mets gave me all the satisfaction I needed last year. This is the year to win it all!
I also was at the last Mets game at the Bank.
I agree, hands down the best sporting event I ever attended. And that includes the "4th and 26" Eagles playoff win against the Pack a few years back, which is a close 2nd. (Sorry, Zo, I'm sure that was a bad memory for you.)
Go Phils!!!

Emily:

Wouldn't it be great if in 2008, the 15-year anniversary of that amazing 1993 champion team, the team also goes to the World Series? The timing would be awesome!

John in LA:

I flew in and went to that final Mets game with my mom, sister and dad. It was my mom's first game ever, so that made it pretty cool. Also got to meet Jimmymack that day, Godfather of the ZoZone. I've got a buddy right now down at Phantasycamp, and I'm jealous as hell. Love this blog and everybody's passion (most of the time).

Can't wait for the season...

GO PHILS!!!!

Chris in DC:

Thanks Zo! This gave me chills. I was at the Philly airport on my way to Madrid when this happened. About 15-20 people including myself (of course) crowded around this airport bar's tv blocking the airport concourse since the tv was facing out of the bar. People going to their respective gates had to squeeze by us. When the final out was made we all let out a large roar and high-fived each other. I know it simple but it's a moment I will never forget.

The wait for ST is killing me! Go Phils!!

anne marie:

february can't get here fast enough for me!

I hibernate starting october 1 thru february 20. then, like sap from the maple tree, I become alive with the crack of wood on cowhide.

GO PHILLIES!

Norma:

Yo, Chris in DC! You didn't get *chills*. You got GOOSEBUMPS! LOL!

How much fun must that have been at the airport?! And.....It's the *simple* moments that make life worth while!

I celebrated my 50th birthday at this game. I have some of my own video clips of the game. Most definitely one of the greatest experiences I've had in my 50 years. I've never felt anything like the electricity that was in CBP that day. I couldn't talk for a week afterwards because I totally wore out my throat from screaming.
May the 2008 season end as well, or better, than '07 did!
I LOVE THE PHILLIES!

Mike D.:

We Are the Champions should ONLY be played for the 80 Phils - won the division? Big deal they did it 5 times between 76 and 83 and actually WON the World Series in 80, that, my friends, is a championship team deserving of this song....gee, already forgot that we still have Adam Eaton and a platoon of Dobbs/Helms/Bruntlett at third, not to mention a light hitting catcher and a closer that couldn't close?!?!?!?

I want the Phils to win as much as anybody but their moves off of last season, when, let's face it, had more to do with the Mets collapsing than anything the Phils did. Oh, and Manuel is still the manager, you know, the guy that got swept by Clint Hurdle and the Rockies......you guys need to shrug off the egg nog high and get back to life, back to reality....also the 93 team had a great season, but choked in the Series.....not a team to really mark in time, unless you are hoping they go to the series and lose like they did 15 years ago.....

Yes, I do have a lot of issues.....

Vetlass:

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait! I'm in the UK, so didn't get to see it live but watched every video clip I could find after! Go Fightens!!!

Norma:

Geeze, Mike D.......What a downer!

Making the play-offs for the first time in 14 years IS a big deal! And the Phils ARE champions.........of the NL East!!!!

Matt B.:

Chills.

Karen:

Comcast Sportsnet recently replayed Mets vs. Phils game at CBP where Werth stole 2nd and 3rd and Utley RBIed Iguchi to win the game. That was so much fun to watch again! Truly Mets vs. Phils in 2007 was the best series of the season.

Norma:

They've re-played that game several times on Comcast. I have it *saved* on my DVR and will NEVER, EVER erase it!!!! 2nd best game of the season! Well, actually, maybe THE best! LOL!

Anonymous:

Mike D. is a moron. didn't we beat the Mets like 8 or 9 in a row. I would think that contributed. what a baffoon

Truth:

Goosebumps until they go 3-13 in their first 16, it's an annual ritual. Goosebumps until Brett Myers beats his wife again. Goosebumps until they actually look at the outfield and realize what's there. Goosebumps until Ryan Howard wakes and realizes he play's for a classless organization. Goosebumps until Charlie butchers a double switch. Goosebumps until Pat the Bat is on first in the bottom of eigth with one out and Bourn is no where to be found. Goosebumps until cry baby Cole realizes that the chriropracter can't cure frailness.
In case you forgot,
The Phillies are a classless organization.

johnny p:

What a thrill that was. Who could've thought it would actually happen. After all the Phils went through (especially the loss of Utley so late in the season). Best of all, they took it away from the Mets. What could've been better? I personally think the Phils are going to be a force in the NL this year. I'm so looking forward to spring training. If the Phils get off to a strong start they're going to roll to such a big lead the race will be over by the end of July. Who better to have running the show and making key trading deadline deals than Pat Gillick? Nobody makes all perfect deals but compare him to everyone we've had since Paul Owens. The guy's just outstanding. Ed Wade was probably a good guy and a pretty good baseball man but Gillick, like Owens, has a talent for finding less then obvious talent which blends well with the team and leads to results well beyond what anyone expected. Guys like Trillo and Jay Johnstone for Owens (who would've thought Trillo was the player he turned out to be) and Dobbs, Werth, Rowand, Lohse for Gillick. Most of all I can't wait for spring training to start to find out who will be a huge surprise this year. Will Eaton go 5-0 to start the season? Will it be Chad Durban or Kendrick who steps up really huge? Maybe I'm a pink cloud optimist but I think the Phils are going to make everyone happy this season (except, of course, Met and Brave fans).

Norma:

Truth.....I don't know why the heck you post here!

FRED:

OUTSTANDING !!! AS ALWAYS I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT SEASON TO BEGIN. YOU CAN PUT THIS GAME DOWN WITH THE 93 TEAM WINNING THE NL AND THE 80
TEAM BEATING MONTREAL. ALL OF THEM GREAT AND LASTING MEMORIE'S FOR AND FAN OF THE PHILLIE'S

PhilCali:

Mike D.,

Cholly didn't go o-fer in the Rockies series like Chase and Ryan did. They got one great pitching performance and another good one out of 3 games. The team did not hit. I agree Cholly should have left Kendrick in the game but that's one move and no guarantee Kendrick gets out of it either. He was starting to get hit over those last 2 innings.

Here's a tip to all the Cholly haters...
Managing is OVERRATED. What has Joe Torre done the last 7 years with all those great Yankee teams? Not enough pitching you say? Hmmm, that sounds familar around here. And everyone's favorite Terry Francona sure looks great now when he has a great team to manage, doesn't he? Oh yeah, Torre managed the greatest choke job in sports being up 3-0 to the Sox.

Cholly's not great, but the team isn't either.

Managing

Norma:

I totally agree with you, PhilCali. About managing being *overrated*. A manager can only work with the talent he has. That was a huge part of our pitching problems last season. Not Charlie's fault.

That being said.....I disagree with your last statement about the team "not being great". I think this team has all the talent it needs to *win it all*!

It was heartbreaking to watch Chase stike out 5 straight at-bats during the Rockies series. Has that EVER happened in his whole career?! Maybe we did *choke* a little, but we were up against a team that had won something like 24 of their previous 25 games. Hard to dismiss the Rockies talent.

We'll be ready in '08!!!

clinton, nj:

I was at the last game of the year, and one of the best feelings was nowing the mets were down 5-0 at the opening pitch!! That was awesome!! So much excitement in the air. And I too was at that mets game, the best game i've ever been to for sure(cant think of a better game). Up 5-0, then all of a sudden tied at 5-5, then we go back up in the bottom of the inning , then the mets go up on us with a big inning, then we chip away and score one run in the bottom of the eight, then two more to win it in the bottom of the ninth!! That capped a nice sweep and launched our great september and the mets historic collapse!! It was such a roller coaster of emotions that day, it was awesome!!! And good luck with retirement Lieby!
