The Route 52 causeway project is almost a year old, but still years away from completion. NBC40 reports that work continues to move along on the New Jersey Department of Transportation's biggest project. In the first phase, two bridges will be built to link Somers Point and Ocean City. Completion is scheduled for December 2009. The second phase, causeway replacement and circle elimination, is in its final design phase.
See the report.

What's new? The US highway 9 (the route that goes from Maine to Florida) bridge nearby has been closed for 4 years and counting. NJ is a really sick state. There have been stop lights and stop signs on the Garden State Parkway nearby for more than 30 years. NJ is so brazen as to declare that it doesn't recognize its orignal state boundaries when it entered the US. We'll see what the US Supreme Court says about that. The bridge project is just NJ business as usual.

I'm from Jersey but now live in the Seattle, WA area. If you think Jersey is bad, you should come to WA. They are still back in the '20's. They can't even merge here and they are just now starting to install tiny traffic circles that they call "round abouts". They think that the "round abouts" are a new and ingenious idea. The DOT (WASHDOT) is so confused on how to design roads and handle traffic, I sent a letter to WASHDOT suggesting that they go back East or to LA or Frisco and see how real traffic is handled. They actually sent me a letter back basically telling me they know what they are doing and that I (politely) should mind my own business. This state is so backward that Jersey looks like an oasis in the sky. They don't inspect cars here, they just check emissions and charge you $15.00. What a joke. I've been out here since 1989 so I know the area and the state. I was born in 1940 and I know Jersey as well.
Thanks for the opportunity to vent. The only thing that they did do well, was post great progress photos (weekly) and keep the public well informed of the new Narrows suspension bridge ($900M). Something that is apparently NOT happening with the Ocean City bridge. Very poor coverage. Very dissappointing. BW
