I was wrong about Doc Martin.

docmartin1.jpg

I've had the guy all wrong. When I heard the name Doc Martin, usually start to think of "superstar djs" like Tietso, Paul Oakenfald, Sasha, and John Digweed. These are guys who graduated from the raves of the 90s to playing at mega-clubs, festivals, and sold out stadiums around the globe. These are the same guys who magazines give god-like status and call them things like "the greatest dj ever". That's cool and all, but I personally have had a problem with these guys, because as much praise as they get the music they play is usually pretty cheesy (well to me at least). I know my opinion doesn't mean much up against a stadium of screaming fans, but trace and hard house has never been my thing.

I have to admit, I was wrong about Doc Martin. The music he plays definitely has got some soul to it. After doing a little research, I realized he is a dj that knows how to pay proper respect the roots of house music and that he likes to give you a full range of musically styles when he plays. Looking over some of his playlists, I saw a lot of my favorite artists of the house world, such as Johnny Dangerous, Kerri Chandler and Blaze. This guy knows his stuff. I'm starting to feel pretty sorry for judging him with my dance music prejudices without really getting to know how he gets down. Who knows, maybe I should re-think my opinions on all these other "superstar djs".

Good thing he happens to be coming to Philly this Friday. At least now, people like me who have made unfair judgments against Doc Martin can experience the man himself and dance away their shame. It all takes place at Solo Nightclub(520 N. Delaware Ave.), which has been bringing some of the biggest names in house to town lately.

Thomas Foltron:

The recognition of Doc's resume should be thoroughly reviewed. The experience i had at solo while standing on the stage with Doc and Lillia controlling the programming of the bass, snares and vocals was quite enjoyable. They broke down all the walls between performer, crowd and bystander to include all that were present. Thoroughly enjoyable . . .

As for my admiration for 'Superstar DJs' such as Sasha & John Digweed. . . they take me to another level on a whole different level. Repetition at its best . . . i'm more than satisfied upon each revisit to their performances . . .

In conclusion . . . good times are presented when one appreciates all forms and sub-genres of dance music.

A Toast To . . .

QUALITY!
