Saturday Night Live

rollcall.jpg

I'm a little overwelmed. There is way too much going down in Philly this Saturday (Expect a full list of my top choices tomorrow). I was really having a hard time deciding what to write about, so I decided to highlight two events with guest dj's who are rarely ever come to this town.

First up we have Roll Call, which is takes place at Northern Liberties' M Room(Frankford and Girard Ave) ever third Saturday. It's the usual wild sweaty PBR-drenched kind of party you would expect from the guys that bring you White Ts White Belts, djs Emynd and Bo Blitz. Baltimore club, mash-ups, and dirty south tracks will be on the menu for the night, but this party's roots are buried deep in the hiphop and reggae party rocking style. This month, special guest dj Dave Nada will be dropping a set since Caps & Jones (the other half of the Roll Call crew) won't be in town. Dave Nada , best known for Baltimore's TaxLo party and from being the dj partner of club producer Tittsworth, is part of a new generation of Baltimore/DC club djs taking the sound to new places. It's should get pretty crazy in there.

Next up, we have the super rare appearance of Q-tip(yes... from A Tribe Called Quest) deejaying at the Tasty Treats party. I know, rappers getting behind the turntables can sometimes be a scary thing. But for those of us that didn't know, Q-tip has been really active on the New York nightclub scene over the past few years. This Saturday night's party is a celebration of the release of the new book Check the Technique by author Brian Coleman. There will be a special meet and greet with the author starting at 9pm. I also hear that Doodlebug of Digable Planets fame will be making a guest appearance on the microphone. Geez... who knows when something like this will ever happen in Philly again? It all goes down at Fluid Nightclub(4th & South).

Stay tuned....
