DJ Nights 8-24-07
With the dramatic change in weather this week, I found myself sick and sticking to a steady diet of Oscillococcinum (a homeopathic medicine that taste like Nerds candy) and Fisherman's Friend. Going out has been the last thing on my mind. Now that Friday is here and the city is starting to feel less like London, it may be time to cure some of this cabin fever.
Here is a list of some good places to check out over the weekend:
Friday
Let Me Damage @ Raven Lounge (1718 Samsom St) - Two parties, Let Me Ride and Damage, combine for a night of electro funk and dance floor crazyness.
The Straight Dope @ The Khyber(56 South 2nd St.) - The Seclusiasis crew brings their own brand of party. Resident djs Dev 79 and Stumble keep the dancefloor moving.
Doc Martin @ Solo Nightclub(520 N Delaware Ave) - Big name dj Doc Martin bring the west coast house sound to Philly.
[Click.] @ Fluid(613 S. 4th St) - Dave P. (of Making Time fame) and Pink Skull get you to freak out to dancefloor rock and other rad stuff.
Basement Soul @ Xochitl (408 S 2nd St) - Djs lil'dave(me) and Junior from Eavesdrop Radio take turns playing a mix of afro-latin grooves, soul, funk, & acid jazz in the downstairs lounge.
Game Over @ Level Room(21st & Market St.) - Hiphop and 80's video games at Philly's newest night spot. DJ Brendan and Si Young on the wheels.
DJ Ian St. Laurent @ Silk City(5th & Spring Garden St.) - The guy from the Hands and Knees party with the classy sounding name plays rock and hipster tunes at the newly reopened Silk City.
Saturday
Physical Education @ Frantic(Post 153, 24th & Passyunk) - Late night dance music action with special guest Carl Michaels and resident djs Jamie Johnson, Jenn Louie, & Darrl Asbury.
Tasty Treats @ Fluid(613 S. 4th St) - A staple to the Philly party scene. Squarebiz presents Hiphop, Reggae, & Classics with Dj Mike Nyce and Questlove of the Roots(when he's in town).
Mojito @ Moshulu(401 South Columbus Blvd.) - Special guest dj Rich Medina is in the house along with residents Lucas Rivera and Bredan. Soulful house and
The Duplex @ Arts Garage (1520 Parrish St) - Illvibe Collective plays an exciting mix hiphop, funk, soul, house, afrobeat, latin, and reggae in a venue that is an alternative to the normal Philly club scene. Expect to party late into the night.
Saturday's @ Xochitl(409 S 2nd St) - Each week djs Botany 500 and Rehab take turns playing a mix of afro-latin grooves, soul, funk, & acid jazz in the downstairs lounge.
Sunday
Sundae @ Bubble House (3402 Sansom St) - DJ Lee Jones and DJ Dirty present an afternoon party(3pm-9pm) for lovers of soulful house music. Local and international guest each week. This weeks guest is Pete Moss.
Fast, Cheap, & Out of Control! @ Fluid (4th St. btw South & Bainbridge) - Rock, punk and glam with DJ Major Wood. I won't give anything away, but I'll say this is definitely a party for the wild and freaky people.
