Diplo brings it home.

The first time I ever even heard of Diplo was years ago at the first Beat Society event at the Five Spot. He was this skinny long haired guy playing the original samples to popular hiphop tracks early in the night. Then I saw that he was throwing this party called Hollertronix along with DJ Low Budget aka Low Bee (who at the time was the DJ for indie hiphop label Arrakis Records) at a Ukrainian community center. Next thing I know, this guy is in every magazine, releasing an album on Big Dada/Ninja Tune record, touring everywhere, producing records and just plain blowing up worldwide. Who knew?

I can't front on him at all, he is a sick dj! He mixes up every style of music he is feeling (Baltimore house, favela funk, dirty south, dancehall, etc) and presents it to crowd in a way that everyone can get loose to it. He smashes it every time! But what I really respect about the guys is the fact that when he comes back home to Philly he always throws a huge bash that people here will be talking about for years to come. The best thing about these parties is that they usually take place in unconventional venues. Who remembers that crazy party at Mummers Museum with baile funk sensation Bonde de Role that took place not too long ago?

Well we are lucky enough to have one of these events tonight (Wed. Sept 26th). It was all going down at the Starlight Ballroom (460 N 9th St), but word is it just got moved to the Mad Decent Mausoleum(a secret warehouse in downtown Philly - 3 blocks away from Starlight) . On the bill is Switch, the UK producer/dj who executive produced M.I.A.'s new album Kala, and Dj Blaqstarr, B-more house producer signed to Diplo's Mad Decent label. I think it's safe to say this will be a pretty big night.

Diplo, Switch, & Dj Blaqstarr @ Starlight Ballroom (460 N 9th St) Mad Decent Mausoleum(???). Wednesday Sept. 26th. Price - ???
