The return of the Bodyrock.

bodyrock.jpg

I've gotten the chance to deejay at a lot of different events and parties throughout the years, but nothing makes me feel as good as playing at Bodyrock.

The Bodyrock is a monthly party I started along with my dj crew Illvibe Collective back in 2001 at the Aqualounge. This party has always felt like a gathering of family and friends. It's one of the few parties in Philly where people really trust the dj. We never had to play any current radio hits to get the people on the dance floor (but we would play a few radio tunes that we really liked). Even though Bodyrock is billed as a hiphop party, it was a chance to push the boundaries by mixing in soul classics, broken beat, house, acid jazz, and whatever else we would felt would work. As the party got bigger, we started bringing in some of our favorite djs to rock along with us. People like DJ Cash Money, Dj Spinna, Rich Medina, Prince Paul, Waajeed, and others graced the turntables at Bodyrock over the years.

Due to the Aqualounge shutting down and some trouble securing a regular venue, the Bodyrock has been on hiatus for most of this year. We felt it was time to bring it back, so this Friday September 28th at the M-Room(15 W. Girard Ave), Bodyrock will return.

I'm pretty excited because this will give me and the rest of the Illvibe guys a chance to deejay in ways that we haven't in a while. We are planning on playing mostly off of vinyl, which we haven't done much since we switched to Serato, in order to take the digital approach to deejaying. This will give us an opportunity do a 5 man tag team style set, which will definitely bring back that high energy feeling of the original event. Also, expect to hear a lot of the songs that have earned the title of "Bodyrock classics". There will be lots of surprises and new memories to be made Friday. I can't wait!!!

BODYROCK @ M-Room(15 W. Girard Ave). Friday September 28th. 10pm-2am. $7, $5 if on guestlist.
