This Weekend's DJ Picks

DJ Picks 9-7-07

Summer vacation is pretty much over. Until next June, you will have to settle for enjoying the sunshine by looking out the window in your office or class room. But it doesn't mean you can't have a good time after the sun goes down. Here are some sure shots for this weekend:

Friday


The Rub @ Fluid(613 S. 4th St) - The Brooklyn based throw down makes it's way to Philly. Cosmo Baker and DJ Eleven will be in the place playing a mix of hip hop, disco, 80s, reggae, funk, house and everything in between.

White T's White Belts @ Arts Garage (1520 Parrish St) - djs Emynd, Bo Bliz, and Dan the Swede get the crowd open with a mix of hiphop, b-more house, mash-ups, and more. This party goes on until the break of dawn.

Flava Friday @ Level Room(21st & Market St.) - Venus 7 brings the house and global grooves, while DJ Strawberry Mansion brings the Top 40.

Solomonic SoundSystem @ Bubble House(34th & Sansom St.) - West Philly's best place to party and one of Philly's top reggae soundsystems come together.

Damage @ Raven Lounge (1718 Samsom St) - Jon Gill and the crew give you a night of electro funk and dance floor crazyness. This weeks special guest is Rigger.

Basement Soul @ Xochitl (408 S 2nd St) - Djs lil'dave(me) and Junior from Eavesdrop Radio take turns playing a mix of afro-latin grooves, soul, funk, & acid jazz in the downstairs lounge.

DJ Ian St. Laurent @ Silk City(5th & Spring Garden St.) - The guy from the Hands and Knees party with the classy sounding name plays rock and hipster tunes at the newly reopened Silk City.


Saturday

Shakedown @ 1409 Melon St. - Rob Paine and Willyum bring the house vibes along with special guest DJ Sunshine of Dubtribe and Imperial Dub records.

Tasty Treats @ Fluid(613 S. 4th St) - A staple to the Philly party scene. Squarebiz presents Hiphop, Reggae, & Classics with Dj Mike Nyce and Questlove of the Roots(when he's in town).

Mojito @ Moshulu(401 South Columbus Blvd.) - A Paperstreet party on a boat! Get grown and sexy with DJ Lucas Rivera and special guest DJ Dirty playing soulful house tunes.

The Duplex @ Arts Garage (1520 Parrish St) - Illvibe Collective plays an exciting mix hiphop, funk, soul, house, afrobeat, latin, and reggae in a venue that is an alternative to the normal Philly club scene. Expect to party late into the night.

Saturday's @ Xochitl(409 S 2nd St) - Each week djs Botany 500 and Rehab take turns playing a mix of afro-latin grooves, soul, funk, & acid jazz in the downstairs lounge.

Fusion @ Solo Nightclub(520 N Delaware Ave) - Multiple rooms of music w/ DJ Venus 7, Christian James, Thomas Fultron, and AJ Clay playing Deep House and top 40.


Sunday


Sundae Block Party @ Bubble House (3402 Sansom St) - DJ Lee Jones and DJ Dirty present an afternoon party(3pm-9pm) for lovers of soulful house music. This week they are having a special Back to School block party.

Rock and Bowl @ Lucky Strikes (1336 Chestnut Street) - Sunday evening fun at Lucky Strikes from 8pm-11pm. Live bands, bowling, drink specials, food, and bowling.... Did I mention bowling?!?!

Fast, Cheap, & Out of Control! @ Fluid (4th St. btw South & Bainbridge) - Rock, punk and glam with DJ Major Wood. I won't give anything away, but I'll say this is definitely a party for the wild and freaky people.


Monday

Back to Basics @ Silk City(5th & Spring Garden) - King Britt brings back his ledgendary part to it's orginal venue. Expect a night of soulful and sexy tunes.
