A little while back I wrote about one of my favorite hiphop groups who go by the name Little Brother. I talked about the MCs in the group, but I didn't mention the former third member of the group, 9th Wonder. 9th Wonder was the man behind the music of Little Brother. His soul drenched beats can be heard on the majority of their earlier work.
At the same time Little Brother's first album was making noise on the hiphop scene, 9th Wonder's was getting his name out there as a producer. It started with a series of white label remix cds of songs by Nas, Musiq Soulchild, Ghostface, Common, and more. Then he worked on a series of collaborative albums with Buckshot, Murs, and Jean Grae. Next thing you know he was given the opportunity to produce "Threat" from Jay-Z's Black Album. What followed was production work with major artists like Destiny's Child and Mary J. Blidge. The workload has become so heavy that he recently left Little Brother to concentrate on his production career.
Little as it's known, 9th Wonder is also a dj. Over the passed few years, he has been part of a traveling party called Brown Sugar. At this event, 9th Wonder, along with DJ Cuzzin B, pay their respects to hiphop and soul music from 1979-1997, which they have dubbed the "True School Era". Philly happens be one of the cities where this party takes place and the next one is this Saturday October 6th at the Mexican Post (1601 Cherry Street). Also in the house that night will be Monie Love(yes that Monie Love) and J. Clipp. It's definitely worth checking out.

I have been living in Philly for a year and a half and I have been trying to find someplace to go where I could dance and see actual black people between the ages of 25 - 35. All my friends like to hang out in Manayunk and Conshohocken so Ive been in serious withdrawal. Last night I went to the Mexican Post and it was exactly what I have been looking for! Anyplace you tell me to go, Im going from now on.
